Description
Pandemics are among the greatest challenges humanity has ever faced. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how disruptive such events can be, even in the presence of modern medicine. History, however, shows that pandemics can be far more devastating. Computational simulation provides one of the most powerful tools for understanding and managing the spread of infectious diseases. This talk will introduce the agent-based model JUNE and explore how it can be used both to prepare for future pandemics and to analyse those of the past. In particular, we will examine how JUNE is being used to model the 1348 Black Death.
