Description

Some modified gravity theories were introduced as a potential way of explaining the observed accelerated expansion of the Universe. Such theories extend Einstein gravity with the addition of a scalar field. I will introduce modified gravity theories, discuss constraints on such theories in the solar system. I will then discuss the effect such theories have in cosmology and how they can be tested. These theories can also be tested in the laboratory and I will discuss some lab experiments to test modified gravity.
