Abstract: The measurement of vector boson polarisation offers a powerful probe of the electroweak gauge sector and electroweak symmetry breaking, with a unique potential for distinguishing between Standard Model effects and signals of new physics. As massive vector bosons are observed only as intermediate particles, their polarisation is accessed through polarised cross-section templates generated by Monte Carlo simulations. In this seminar, I will introduce the calculation of these polarised predictions, with particular emphasis on the main challenges involved in separating polarisations at the amplitude level. Alongside recent phenomenological results at fixed order, I will present the new polarisation framework in the Monte Carlo event generator Sherpa, which makes Sherpa one of the few tools capable of delivering these polarisation templates at hadron level, including higher-order QCD effects.
