Description

The Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology (IPPP) at Durham University is hosting the International Particle Physics Masterclass on Thursday 28th of March 2019. This is a one-day event where 70 students from the regional schools will come to the IPPP to carry out a data analysis activity. The students will use real data from the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.

During the morning there will be short lectures about particle physics, the LHC and how new particles are discovered. Afterward, a buffet lunch will be provided, followed by the hands-on data analysis activity. The day will conclude with a live video-conference with other Masterclasses at other research centers around the world, and with CERN!

This activity lies within the International Hands-On Particle Physics Masterclass, which involves 215 institutions worldwide, and is coordinated by the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG).

This event has no registration fee.

Only teachers or school authorities can register on behalf of their students and the corresponding schools are responsible for the transportation of their students to the event venue. Unfortunately, there are no funds available to cover transportation costs.

The attendees will be served with food and beverages during the break periods. Please let us know if any of the attendees have special needs, food allergies or dietary requirements in the registration form.
