Description

Outer space is on a path to become a contested domain. As more spacecraft continue to launch and regulations including norms of behaviour are established, the importance of independent validation of spacecraft behaviour will amplify. In preparation, L3Harris has teamed with IBM to deconstruct blockchain technology to produce consensus in space situational awareness (SSA) data while establishing its provenance, immutability, and attribution. Specifically, SSA data requests are organized onto an immutable ledger such that, once consensus (i.e. agreement between independent data curators for the validity of the dataset provisioned in response to a request) is established, each step related to a request—its corresponding data provision(s) and their corresponding data curation(s)—are recorded on a transaction block.
