Abstract:

In this talk I want to discuss some virtues of light new physics models in solving shortcomings of the SM. In the first part of the talk I will briefly review light mediators of a new dark $U(1)$ gauge symmetry and the typical search strategies employed to look for these. I will then argue that in a large class of such models, where also SM field are allowed to be charged under the new symmetry, complementary search strategies have to be exploited in particular relying on neutrino interactions. I will exemplify this for the case of gauged $U(1)_{L_\mu-L_\tau}$, where the $(g-2)_\mu$ excess and the observed tension in $H_0$ can simultaneously be explained. In particular, I will discuss how future neutrino probes could test this solution.

In the second part of the talk I will discuss the implications of quantum field theoretical formulations of fuzzy or ultralight DM in terms of a scalar or pseudo-scalar particle coupled to the Higgs or a new scalar mediator via scalar portal interactions. First, I will give an overview of existing constraints from cosmology and low energy physics over a broad range of DM masses. In the main part I will then discuss novel detection opportunities of such ultralight DM at the LHC, in particular via displaced recoil jets emerging from DM-nucleus scattering in the detector material.
