Air transport

Several airports offer convenient access to Liverpool:

  • Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL): The closest airport to Liverpool with frequent buses to the city centre. It is also close enough to take a taxi to the city centre or university. More information on local travel to and from this airport can be found at liverpoolairport.com/transport.
  • Manchester Airport (MAN): Farther than Liverpool airport, but with better international flight connections. Getting to Liverpool is very easy. There are direct trains and coaches connecting the airport to Liverpool city centre and the journey takes around an hour. For more information see manchesterairport.co.uk/getting-to-and-from/.
  • London Airports (LHR, LGW, STN, LCY, LLA, SEN):  It is possible to fly into any London airport and get to Liverpool the same day.  You can also consider a brief stay in London. There are frequent direct trains between Liverpool and London Euston station. The train journey takes a little over two hours, but the price can be high if tickets are not booked in advance.  It can also take an hour or more to get from the airport to Euston.  While coaches between Liverpool and London airports are also an option, this is a much slower journey (at least six hours).

Rail transport

The main railway station is Liverpool Lime Street, which is a roughly 10-minute walk from the university. Liverpool is very well connected to the national rail network, with frequent direct trains to London, Manchester and many other cities. Tickets can be booked in advance to minimise cost. For timetables and ticket purchases see thetrainline.com or nationalrail.co.uk.
