Boulby Underground Laboratory is the UK’s deep underground science facility – one of just a select few facilities in the world suitable for hosting ultra-low background and deep underground science projects. Boulby supports a wide range of pure and applied science projects with national and international participation.

Plans are now underway to expand the facilities at Boulby to enable major new science and technology studies from 2030. Enabling an increase in the current science programme themes as well as opportunities for new science projects and project themes, such as quantum. The Boulby team are keen to engage with the quantum community and understand the interest in, and potential use case(s) and requirements for, quantum computing and Quantum Technologies for Fundamental Physics (QTFP) at the Boulby facility.

This workshop will:

  1. Engage the quantum community (both academic and industrial) with the opportunities at Boulby.
  2. Identify the "value proposition" for quantum science and technology being underground at Boulby.
  3. Help develop a quantum strand for the science strategy at Boulby.
