This Code of Conduct sets expectations for all participants to promote a respectful, inclusive, and academically enriching environment.
All participants are expected to read, understand, and comply with this Code of Conduct. By attending the STFC Summer School you agree to uphold these standards throughout the program.
Respect and Inclusion
- Treat all individuals with dignity, kindness, and professionalism.
- Embrace diversity in all its forms, including differences in background, discipline, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and culture.
- Foster an environment where everyone feels heard and valued.
Zero Tolerance for Harassment and Bullying
We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy toward:
- Harassment, including sexual, verbal, or psychological harassment
- Discrimination or exclusionary behaviour
- Bullying, intimidation, or retaliation in any form
Violations will lead to immediate investigation and may result in dismissal from the program.
Responsible Use of Facilities and Shared Spaces
- Respect university property and the residential environment.
- Follow all safety, fire, and security protocols of the university.
Alcohol, Drugs, and Smoking
- Use of illegal drugs is strictly prohibited.
- Smoking and vaping are permitted only in designated areas.
- Responsible, legal alcohol consumption is permitted in accordance with university policy and local law, but drunken or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
Digital and Social Media Etiquette
- Do not record or photograph others without consent.
- Use digital platforms respectfully; avoid sharing confidential or sensitive information.
- Refrain from online harassment or exclusionary behavior.
Attendance and Engagement
- Attend all scheduled sessions unless formally excused.
- Be punctual and actively participate in lectures and tutorials.
- Let organizers know of any issues that may affect your ability to participate.
Reporting and Support
If you experience or witness misconduct:
- Report it to the Summer School Director
- All reports will be taken seriously, treated confidentially, and addressed promptly

Consequences for Misconduct
Consequences for violating this Code may include:
- Verbal or written warning
- Removal from specific activities
- Dismissal from the summer school without refund
- Reporting to your home institution
