The Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology (IPPP) at Durham University is hosting the International Particle Physics Masterclass on the 23rd and 24th of March 2020. These are two one-day events where students from the regional schools will come to the IPPP to carry out a data analysis activity. The students will use real data from the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.
In the morning session, there will be short lectures about particle physics, the LHC and how new particles are discovered. Afterward, a buffet lunch will be provided, followed by the hands-on data analysis activity. The day will conclude with a live video-conference with other Masterclasses at other research centers around the world, and with CERN!
This activity lies within the International Hands-On Particle Physics Masterclass, and coordinated by the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG). About 13.000 high school students in 55 countries come to one of about 225 nearby universities worldwide to participate in the event.
This event has no registration fee.
Only teachers or school authorities can register on behalf of their students by submitting the registration form. Please provide us the names of all students and teachers in registration form. The corresponding schools are responsible for the transportation of their students to the event venue. Unfortunately, there are no funds available to cover transportation costs.
The attendees will be served with food and beverages during the break periods. Please let us know if any of the attendees have special needs, food allergies or dietary requirements in the registration form.
