The UK HEP Forum 2024 will take place on 26-27 November 2024 at The Cosener's House in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and via Zoom.

This year’s forum focuses on the challenges and opportunities in creating a sustainable future for research in particle physics. It aims to:

  • examine current practices, challenges, and emerging solutions for reducing environmental impacts associated with particle physics research. This includes integrating sustainable principles into the experimental design and operation of particle accelerators and detectors, as well as the utilization of large-scale computing.
  • discuss the impact of the UKRI/Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) net-zero commitment on HEP research activities.
  • provide best-practice examples and sustainability initiatives from universities and research centres in the UK and overseas.

In-depth presentations will be given by invited speakers, including experimentalists, theorists, and policy makers. The scientific programme will include topics such as:

  • computing and AI
  • future accelerator and detector technologies
  • reinterpretation of measurements and reproducible research

In addition, the forum will feature a session of short talks giving UK PhD students the opportunity to present their work in all areas of HEP. Interested students are encouraged to submit a talk via the registration form.

The forum is sponsored by the IPPP and STFC. There is no registration fee. Accommodation will be free of charge for all UK attendees. Travel expenses within the UK (ground transport only) will be reimbursed to students who present a talk.

Registration is required and is open to participants with UK affiliation only. In the spirit of this year's Forum, we encourage travel to/from the venue by public transport or ride-sharing. This calculator can help plan your journey: https://routezero.world/.

We look forward to welcoming you.
