How to get to Lumley Castle

Directions by road:

A1(M) junction 63. Take the turn off for Chester le Street and follow signs for Riverside. You will then pick up signs for Lumley Castle.

By rail:
Chester-le-Street (3 km)
Durham (12 km)
Newcastle (18 km).

The stations are on the main east-coast line London Kings Cross - Newcastle - Edinburgh.

All services stop at Newcastle, some main services stop at Durham but only local trains stop at Chester-le-Street.

There are taxis available at any of the above railway stations.

By air:

Newcastle Airport (30km)
Newcastle Airport has regular flights to and from Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Cologne-Bonn, Copenhagen, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Geneva, Hanover, Malaga, Milan, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Rome and Stavanger as well as from London and other UK cities.

Newcastle Airport is situated approximately 8 miles north west of Newcastle City Centre. To get from Newcastle airport to Chester-le-Street. by public transport use the Metro which takes you to Newcastle Central Station for about 2.40 GBP (trains operate every 20 minutes) and then connect with the mainline train to Chester-le-Street. A taxi from Newcastle airport to Chester-le-Street. costs about 40 GBP.

Durham Tees Valley Airport (50km)

Durham Tees Valley Airport has regular flights to and from Alicante, Amsterdam, Dublin, Malaga, Paris, Rome and London. The railway station at Darlington located approximately 7 miles east of Durham Tees Valley Airport is a short bus or taxi ride. Sky Express bus service is available free for air passengers.
Trains to Durham cost about 6 GBP (single) and operate frequently. Only local trains will stop at Chester-le-Street (one stop after Durham).
Taxis from the airport to Chester-le-Street are available directly outside the terminal building and cost about 40 GBP.
