Travel to Durham

Information on how to get to Durham, the IPPP and Collingwood College is available on this page.

The closest airport to Durham is Newcastle International Airport. The airport is directly connected to the central train station via the metro. Trains to Durham are frequent and typically takes only 15-20 minute from Newcastle. Durham Central station at Staindrop is 5 minutes from the central bus station, where one can take busses 56/57/57A/X12 Max (from stand K) or 6 (from stand F). The Rochester Building is 5 minutes from New Inn - Church Street bus stop, and Collingwood College is located here.

The train station is about a 30-minute walking distance from the department; if you are interested in walking, this link will show the "organiser's choice" route to the Rochester building. Note that it might not be pleasant to walk with luggage.

Durham is located on a fast rail route from London (approximately three hours from Kings Cross train station) to Edinburgh (about 2 hours from Waverly train station).

From Manchester airport, there is a direct train to York, where one would need to change to another train. (the route to York is prolonged and very busy).

Please check the train schedule before you arrive; strikes are usually announced up to two weeks in advance.
