Travelling to the IPPP

How to get to Durham

By Car

Durham is about 30 min. by car south of Newcastle upon Tyne. Find the A1 and leave it at exit Durham. From the south take exit 61 (Bowburn) and follow the A177 to Durham. At the first round about in Durham take a left, take another left at the next traffic light. Drive up the hill and follow the sign for Collingwood college. From the north, take exit 62 (Durham) and drive towards Durham. At the  first round about follow the signs for city center. Take the left exit at the next round about and follow the road straight through the next traffic light and keeping right at the following Y junction. Continue staright at the new Inn pub and look for a sign for collingwood college on the left as you drive up the hill. 
 

By Bus

There are bus connections to Durham or Newcastle from most major cities in England.

By Rail

The Intercity East-Coast line links Durham with London King's Cross and Edinburgh. Most Intercity trains stop in Durham. Otherwise you have to take a local train or taxi (less than 20 GBP) from Newcastle Central station. Timetable information is available from National Rail

 

IPPP

The Institute is located in the Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics, adjacent to the main Physics Department building on the University Science Site. If you are arriving by train it is a 20 minute walk from the railway station to the Department, or you can take a taxi. The Ogden Centre is number 12 on the University map below.
